Lizzo celebrates as Truth Hurts tops Billboard Hot 100

It’s taken two years but on Tuesday, she finally did it.

Lizzo’s Truth Hurts climbed to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 two years after she first released it as a single.

The 31-year-old was so excited that she tweeted her response to the news in all caps: ‘THIS IS A W FOR ALL OF US. ANYBODY WHO EVER FELT LIKE THEY VOICE WASN’T HEARD. ANYBODY WHO FELT LIKE THEY WEREN’T GOOD ENOUGH. YOU ARE. WE ARE. CHAMPIONS. I LOVE YALL 3 MUCH.’

The achievement is the first by a solo female rap artist since Cardi B’s breakthrough hit Bodak Yellow made number one on the chart in October 2017, Billboard.com reported.

Cardi B joined in the celebration, tweeting her congratulations to Lizzo. 

‘The fact that Lizzo a couple months ago felt underestimated and now she have a #1!!!!BITCH! take that!take that ! Makes me emotional .. It’s the best feeling in the world,’ she tweeted.

Back in April, the Detroit native who was born Melissa Jefferson Lizzo spoke to EW about her growing fame.  

‘For a long time I didn’t want to be that big black girl with a soulful voice,’ she explained. ‘That’s how we were tokenized — the big black girls were always the belters, and I’ve always been afraid of being put into that box.’
